I have an Alienware M17x-R2 with an HD5870 Mobility video card. I was curious about upgrading the video card to breathe some new life into the machine for gaming.
Solved Alienware 17 Graphics Card Upgrade Forum Solved What is the best and cheapest graphics card upgrade (200-300 usd) for an Alienware m17x r4 with an NVIDIA geforce gtx 675m? Not only are size and price issues, but Alienware only offers the Nvidia GeForce GT 555M inside the M14x and that graphics card offer less performance than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 560M found inside.
Hi, I would suggest that you run the diagnostics on the computer by following the steps mentioned below and check if there is any issue with the hardware on your system. • Turn on or restart the computer.
• Immediately at the Dell logo screen, starting tapping the key once a second until the One Time Boot menu appears (if the computer boots to Windows turn the computer off and try again). • At the One Time Boot menu, press the arrow key to highlight Diagnostics, PSA+ or Enter ePSA, then press to begin the hardware Diagnostics. • Write down any error codes listed.
Reply to us with the error codes. In addition, I would suggest you to download the Nvidia driver from the dell support site and install it.
Please enter your service tag # on the link below, select the OS, then download the video card driver from Video section onto the system and install it. Please let me know if this helps. Thanks for the info. I ran the diag and it showed no errors and it also did not show my Videa Card in that test process. But, with that being said I got back into windows and went into my device manager just to make sure i am still having issues with the Nvidia drive and drivers and it is now recognizing my card. I now have the drivers up to date and as far as i know now everything is working properly.
Not sure what has been going on i went a few days without it and have even made arrangements to ship it off for warranty repair assuming it was dead. I am unable to really test the video performance at this time and will update if problems persists after this. Again Thank you for the help.
Hi, I really hope someone can help me. I have a m14x R2 laptop.
And it seems that lately my performance has really dropped. A lot of games run at awful FPS using the NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M card. I ran Unigine Valley Benchmark 1.0 and scored a 222, (min:3 high:12). This looks rather wrong and I wonder if anyone can give me any advice?
So far I have: Re-installed a fresh install of windows. Switched to using a SSD for my main windows install. Made sure all NVIDIA drivers are up to date Made sure all dell drivers are up to date. Made sure windows is up to date. Made sure all games are running using the nvidia card and not integrated graphics.
Cleaned out fans with compressed air. Here is a small breakdown of my system (i can provide more). Scan your pc with malware bytes and use ddu to remove your old nvidia drivers.
Reboot then re install and see if it has helped. You clean your heatsink out lately with compressed air for the heck of it?
Already did that, it didn't help. I believe it is something to do with the graphics card as when running some games the FPS starts of high then slowly drops down to a crawl, whereas the integrated graphics (although crappy) stays constant. I clean out the fans now and again to make sure it doesn't get clogged up. The laptop is idling? If I recall, the Gpu and cpu temps are more important, because those are what produces heat.
Anyway, use something like h/wmonitor to measure temps at full load, run heaven benchmark for the gpu I ran 3D Mark. This is the result Rather awful for a gaming laptop: Using HWMonitor. During the test my CPUs range between 83-87 degrees and my nvidia graphics card got up to 70 degreees I did notice however that when I used to play resource intensive games my fans would spin alot louder to account of the load. They didn't get any faster while that benchmark was running.
