Re: Need to decipher year of Huffy BMX bike serial numbers I just picked up a huffy that says matador on the frame and huffy street stock II on the fork. Sure its a street stock II but cannot decipher the year looks similar to the maxx air, street smart and freestyle expert frames. 
Serial numbers All bikes all have unique serial numbers. Most bicycles have their serial number engraved beneath their bottom bracket, but sometimes serial numbers are found in other places.
Here are some examples of where and what to look for: • The bottom bracket (where serial numbers are typically located) is circled. • A serial number on the underside of a bottom bracket.
• Another serial number beneath the bottom bracket, aligned parallel to the frame. • Some Schwinn bicycles have the unique identifying number on their head tube (which is on the front of the bike). • A serial number located on a rear drop out. Some BMX bikes and a few Schwinn bicycles place the serial on the rear dropout. On older Schwinns there are numbers stamped on both the drive side and non-drive side rear dropouts; the one on the non-drive side dropout is the serial number. • Some bikes have multiple serial numbers. When adding a bike to the Index, it's best to enter all the groups of numbers and letters separated by spaces.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 27, 1993 Release # 93-097 PRODUCT: Almost 14,000 men's and women's 20-, 24-, and 26- inch Huffy bicycles distributed under the 'Huffy' or 'Sears Free Spirit' trademark. The affected bicycles were manufactured and distributed nationwide between February 1993 and March 1993. Affected models are listed on the attached news release. PROBLEM: Affected bicycles have a defect that may cause the plastic hand brake levers to break during use. If the lever breaks, the rider could fail to stop and fall from the bicycle. The bicycles also fail to meet the Federal Bicycle Standard that requires the hand brake levers to withstand a force up to 100 pounds.

WHAT TO DO: Consumers who have an affected model should call the Huffy Bicycle Company at 888-366-3828 for free replacement brake levers. Consumers who do not wish to replace the levers themselves can ask for the location of the nearest Huffy Bicycle Company Authorized Service Center where the bicycle can be taken for a free inspection and brake lever replacement. Consumers should discontinue using affected bicycles until brake levers are replaced. If the brake lever breaks, the rider could fail to stop and risk potential injury. The Federal Bicycle Standard requires that hand brake levers withstand a force up to 100 pounds.
